Compatibility

Microsoft is developing an ecosystem, instead of standalone products, and Business Central is one element of this ecosystem. The elements are fully interoperable. In what forms is it available?

SaaS – ‘Software as a Service’

A fully cloud-hosted version of BC. With this option, Business Central is available on a monthly license plan, which includes the fee for using the system and the cost of the entire infrastructure behind it.

We recommend this option if you:

  • accept a system based entirely on cloud technology
  • require a high level of data protection and multiple (redundant) backups
  • prefer not to buy and operate your own infrastructure
  • prefer a flexible license structure, i.e. optimize (reduce, increase) the number of users, even on a monthly basis
  • prefer operational costs without major investment costs

What you should consider:

  • This solution tends more towards standardization.
  • Support for customized development is more limited.
  • In the long term (5, 10 years of TCO), operating costs may be higher than a one-off investment cost.

System implemented on-premise

With this option, the system is installed on local (own or remote) infrastructure, and is obtainable by purchasing a single perpetual license.

We recommend this option if you:

  • prefer a highly customizable system with lots of unique functionality
  • prefer to keep the infrastructure completely under your control
  • prefer to buy a license that grants a right of use in perpetuity
  • base your decision on your assessment of a long-term total cost of ownership (5-10 years)

What you should consider:

  • The initial investment cost is higher this way.
  • You will be responsible for running the entire infrastructure, backups and data protection.
  • Due to customization for specific features, implementation will take longer and cost more.
