Feeling safe in the cloud

2021.11.29./in /by webergoline

The expression “cloud solutions” often raised concerns amongst business leaders for many years. Today companies are well aware by now that moving to the cloud is a no-brainer, what’s more, it can help businesses stay competitive and ensures resilience and agility. However, concerns about data security and privacy cause still a headache for many companies that are considering cloud transformation. We’ve gathered the most important questions and the answers to them.

The first question is whether a cloud-system is safe. Well, the protection of corporate data requires both a secure service provider and responsible user behaviour as data protection is a shared responsibility. The most important is that all data should be protected, regardless of where it is stored. When the user and the service provider follow the minimum necessary standards, the security risk is negligible.

The next common question is how to choose the right provider: is there any difference between the big players?

The advantage of choosing a service from big providers such as Microsoft, is that they invest massively in data security. Microsoft, for example invests more than $1 billion a year in cybersecurity research and development. Furthermore, all Microsoft cloud products are built on the Azure cloud platform, which is the world’s second largest public cloud provider and has the most compliance certifications.

And what else can make us feel better about our data security? Whose data is it anyway?

It’s important to highlight that data is and remains the property of the company, no matter if it sits in a data centre or managed by the service provider. Service providers must ensure that company and customer data is used only to provide the agreed services and is never shared with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

We must also note that data security, or cyber security, is an ongoing process. With the emergence of evolving cyber threats and more sophisticated attacks, it is critical to consider whether the IT partner we choose has the right know-how, budget and commitment to ensure the company’s data is protected.
